The Syrian Ministry of Transport has announced that it is suspending flights at Damascus International Airport, Reuters reported today (Friday). The Ministry of Transportation said in a statement that the reason for the cessation of flights was “the cessation of operations of a number of technical systems.” It was also reported that after the fault was repaired, a notice would be issued about the resumption of flights.
The report comes against the background of the Syrian report from this morning, according to which the air defense systems in the capital Damascus area were activated following an Israeli attack. According to reports, the attack was aimed at targets in the south of the city.
A Syrian army source said that “the attack took place at 4:00 a.m., using rocket fire from the Golan Heights to several points south of the city of Damascus, and there were several material losses.”
This is the second attack this week, attributed to Israel. Last Monday, state television reported that “Syrian air defense has intercepted hostile targets over the capital, Damascus.” The incident was described as “Israeli aggression” by the state-owned Syrian news channel. No injuries were reported in the incident.
