Pensions: the CFDT “remains opposed to any postponement of the legal age of departure”

by time news

No compromise. The CFDT “remains opposed to any postponement of the legal retirement age” and “to any parallel increase in the contribution period”, said Monday in Le Figaro its secretary general, Laurent Berger, in reaction to the Emmanuel Macron’s proposal. The President of the Republic declared himself last week “completely open” to giving up the target of 65 years, “if in addition to 64 years we lengthen the quarters”.

“On the postponement of the legal retirement age, to 65 or 64, the CFDT is clear: no”, replies Laurent Berger, who disputes that the “survival of the system” is at stake: “We are looking for ten billion euros per year in the medium term, out of a total of 320 billion in expenditure. We are far from the bankruptcy of the system.

The union does not want to “deserte consultation”

Last June, during the congress, activists had already closed the door and blocked any “extension of the contribution period in the pension file”. For the majority union, “the increase in life expectancy” cannot justify “an increase in the age of liquidation”.

However, the CFDT does not intend to “deserte the consultation” opened by the government, unlike its rival the CGT, which continues the days of strike and demonstration – the next is scheduled for November 10.
