Russia proposed to introduce a new fine for dangerous driving

by time news

A new fine for dangerous driving may appear in Russia. Such changes have been made to the draft of the new Code of Administrative Offenses, RIA Novosti reports with reference to the first deputy chairman of the Federation Council Committee on Constitutional Legislation Irina Rukavishnikova.

According to the senator, the size of the new fine will be 3,000 rubles. It is proposed to impose it on drivers who are sharply rearranged through two lanes at once, do not keep the distance, make high-speed overtaking, etc. in cases where such driving is of a “systemic nature.”

Rukavishnikova noted that the legal definition of the concept of “dangerous driving” was given in a government decree back in 2016. Among other things, it included refusal to give way to a vehicle with preferential right of movement, rearrangement during heavy traffic, when all lanes are occupied, and a sharp braking if not required to prevent an accident.

Until now, the administrative legislation has not provided for liability for dangerous driving. Dashing people were punished for individual, rather than systematic violations – for example, speeding or not keeping the distance. Now, in addition to fines for each individual violation, it is planned to punish such drivers with a fine for aggressive driving, which endangers the safety of other road users, including pedestrians.

Earlier, the Ministry of Justice proposed to deprive a driver’s license for three or more gross traffic violations per year. If the amendments are adopted, the term of deprivation of rights will be from one to one and a half years. The ministry said that the new code will not increase fines for traffic violations, except for punishment for drunk driving if there are children in the cabin. In this case, it is proposed to increase the fine from 30,000 rubles. up to 50,000 rubles, and the term of deprivation of rights will be from two to three years.
