The 150th annual closing ceremony of St. Joseph’s Cathedral in Thiruvananthapuram was a celebration of tradition and religious harmony. The cathedral, located in the heart of the city along with temples including the Padmanabhaswamy temple, is a symbol of unity and coexistence.

During the ceremony, Rajkutumbangam Aswathitirunal Gauri Lakshmibai spoke about his childhood memories of visiting the Padmanabhaswamy temple and being fascinated by the Palayam Palli. He expressed his joy in inaugurating the ceremony at the church, especially during the Christmas season.

Gauri Lakshmibai also highlighted the tradition of carol groups visiting Kotarath and lighting a large candle to celebrate the birth of Jesus. He emphasized the importance of every community acting as a driving force for the good of society.

Thiruvananthapuram’s Metropolitan Dr. Thomas J. Neto described the cathedral as a shade tree that has contributed to the great experience of religious harmony in the city. The Archbishop also praised the Palayam Palli, while Emeritus Archbishop Dr. M. Susapakyam delivered a eulogy during the ceremony.

The event was attended by Parish Vicar Mon. E. Wilfred, Mon. C. Joseph, and Palayam Imam V.P. Suhaib Maulvi, among others, who came together to celebrate the centuries of tradition and religious coexistence represented by St. Joseph’s Cathedral.
