The Cassà de la Selva Animation and Short Film Festival will highlight the twentieth anniversary of Correcurts, the star activity of La Macca, with a special edition of the fast short film competition and a commemorative concert. The event, from February 2 to 4, will also include a tribute to documentary filmmaker Antoni Martí, who will receive the Domènec Torrent i Gelmà award and will present a selection of amateur animated short films in commemoration of the centenary of amateur cinema.
If last year the exhibition promoted by the Vuitimig cineclub with the collaboration of the Cassà City Council focused on video games and the previous one on comics, this year it looks towards one of its flagship activities, the Correcurts, a call with a unique personality that reaches twenty years. The contest, which has become La Macca’s straw man, gives participants 24 hours to create a short film based on an element chosen by the organization.

This year the competition is enhanced to celebrate the anniversary with a special celebration, with more prizes and surprises for the public and contestants, as the organization progresses. The filming and editing of the shorts will be on February 3, the day on which the Galà room (6.30 p.m.) will also host a concert by the Youth Orchestra of Cassà, which adds to the celebration with a repertoire dedicated to film soundtracks. The screening and award ceremony of the film competition will be on 4 in the afternoon, in the room of the Recreation Center and online.
In the same space, but a little earlier, it will be delivered the nineteenth Domènec Torrent i Gelmà award, intended for people and organizations that work to maintain cinema in the villages. On this occasion, we want to recognize the work of filmmaker and documentary filmmaker Antoni Martí.
As usual, however, the Cassà Animation and Short Film Show will include animation proposals for young and old, workshops and children’s activities. My First Festival, a selection of animation productions especially recommended for children aged eight and over; the traditional animation workshop stop-motionwho also reaches the age of twenty; L’hora del Conte, in collaboration with the library of Cassà, on this occasion with Chomón for the baby or a cooking workshop in English from the Kids&Us academy, to prepare recipes related to cinema are some of the activities on the programme.

This year’s Macca line-up is complete with the presentation of the novel Ava al paradís by Mateu Ciurana (February 3, 12.00) and the book See you Mavel (February 2, 8 p.m.), in which Pep Prieto and Àlex Santaló review the Marvel cinematic universe for the first time in Catalan. The session will include the screening ofSpiderman: a new universe, the update of one of the editorial’s iconic figures.
