Raphael is back on the road with Victoriaa tour in which he presents his new work, with songs by Pablo Lópezbecause, he says, from the beginning of his career he has sought to approach young people. “They teach me the way without ceasing to be me”assures the artist, satisfied to go out to sing every night in front “four and even five generations”. For now he does not want to hear about goodbyes, but when the day comes, he assures, he will leave suddenly, because “bad news must be given as a surprise, for the good of everyone”.
On August 7 he will perform in the citadel of Rosesat the end of the Sons del Món festival.
The last two summers he has spent on the Costa Brava with his sixtieth birthday tour on the stages, Raphael 6.0and this year returns with Victoria and new material. He has rope for a while.
I try, and I try to make a better record every time. I think that with this one we have reached the top of well-made and beautiful, well-born. I’m happy with the album and with the collaboration with Pablo López, I think there are many songs that can leave a mark on people’s hearts.
Is the “victory” of the title a woman or a success?
It is the victory of a lifetime. It’s a beautiful woman’s name, but apart from that is the family I have, the loyalty of the public over the years… There are many things, it’s sixty years of career. Victoria is the right name that can lead a tour of mine.
Are these sixty years of victories also sixty years of sacrifices?
Certainly. There is no great victory without great sacrifice and without being willing to leave everything or combine everything, career, loves, family and friends… Everything has its share of sacrifice, but that’s okay let it be so

Totally, yes!
Victoria is the result of a collaboration with the musician and composer Pablo López. Where does a relationship so close as to demand an entire album come from?
I had enough of watching him on TV, coming back from America. It was a novelty for me, and while I was watching it I was already convinced that he would be the one to make my next record. And not a song to try, no, I was so sure I ordered a whole album from him and he hasn’t disappointed me at all. Even more, our collaboration will continue, because there will be another album.
For my sake, I couldn’t do a farewell tour, from city to city, because I would die of sadness.
How did they work?
Pablo has had absolute freedom, knowing what my music is like, my style, my air. He took from my way of doing things what he wanted and we talked about the lyrics a lot, we explained a thousand things to each other, especially me, so that he could enter my world and he made it perfect.
Is working with Pablo López a nod to a younger audience?
I think I’ve been noticed a lot for winking at young people since I started. When I was twenty years old I was already paying attention to the composers of ten! (laughs) I’ve always been with young people, because they show me the way without ceasing to be me. Not because he takes something, I’ll do it, if I don’t like it. I don’t use what I don’t like, but what I do, I don’t care where it comes from, I stick to it because I need to always be connected to what’s new. The public should always see me as they like to see me: at the latest, at the forefront of everything. Nostalgia, the fair.
In fact, at his concerts you can see both young people and very old people.
Yes! Without exaggerating, I sing for four generations and even five, it’s barbaric, a miracle. I go to concerts of many artists around the world and this diverse audience that I have is very difficult to find together. There are people of all ages and conditions, and the best thing is that they accompany my career for a large part of their lives.
It feels like there is one revival of the Raphael phenomenon, as if it were cyclical.
No, there is no revil because I’ve never left The longest time I’ve been gone has been now, almost five months, but because I needed to rest and put a lot of things in order. I have always been in the gap, I need the stage and my songs are always present. I only have to remind the audience of the first bars and the general shout comes, because they recognize them for sure. This is the miracle of My big night, for example: after having been a great success forty years ago, it became so again ten years ago, because young people once again made it their own. Fortunately, I have such a diverse repertoire that it is suitable for any occasion, I have worked hard on it.
With sixty years of career do you have things left to do?
There are always challenges.
