Triathletes Alessio Crociani and Clara Aulinas it’s van to impose in the male and female categories, respectively, of the Sant Silvestre de Girona 2023which was held on Saturday evening in Fontajau. The Italian Crociani did it with 14 minutes and 14 seconds (trial record)a time similar to what he usually achieves in the final five kilometers of triathlon competitions, while the olotina Aulinas arrived with 17 minutes and 11 seconds.
Despite the high competitive level of the two winners, the last sporting event of the year was attended by a large number of fans. The courses had more than 1,800 participantssome of whom fulfilled the tradition of dressing up to say goodbye to the year.
In the men’s category, behind Crociani, came Euan De Nigro (14:41), Raf De Dobbelaere (14:45), Freddy Ovett (14:49) and David McNamee (14:52). In the women’s race, followed by Aulinas, there were: Gemma Frigola (17:29), Maria Mercedes Martín (18:23), Carolina Routier (18:25) and Jolien Vandemoortele (18:51).
The mini-race was also contested and, despite the initial mess, the circuit was as planned. The day before, there was an uproar, since the possible “avalanche of indispositions” of cash from the municipal police could have forced to modify the route planned for the Sant Silvestre race.
“From the Security and Coexistence and Sports councils, everything has been organized to run the race with the announced circuit. However, in case of “indispositions” on the part of the agents, we have Plan B ready to guarantee that there will be a Race of Sant Silvestre”, explained Sílvia Aliu, the Councilor of Finance.
