Local officials said that Ukraine began mass evacuations of residential communities in the Sumy region near the Russian border in the north of the country, after long periods of intense bombing of the area.

The Military Administration of the Sumy region said on the Telegram application: “More than 180 residents of the areas near the Velikopisarska region adjacent to the border have been evacuated during the past three days.”

The regional administration indicated that “the areas concerned are the most tense in the Sumy region, where 3 people were killed and 13 injured during the past five days.”

She added that “more than 4,500 residents were evacuated from 22 villages in the Sumy region, but did not specify a time frame.”

Velikopisarska is located a few kilometers from the Russian village of Kozinka, where local authorities said this week that an incursion by armed groups had caused serious damage.
