VfB Stuttgart | VfB Stuttgart extends contracts with Sebastian Hoeneß and David Krecidlo

by time news

VfB has extended the contract with its head coach, originally dated until 2025, until June 30, 2027. Assistant coach David Krecidlo has also signed a contract that runs until the summer of 2027.

The start of his tenure at VfB was rapid for Sebastian Hoeneß. On April 4, 2023, the 41-year-old led his first team training at the VfB club center. Just one day later, the DFB Cup quarter-finals against 1. FC Nürnberg were on the agenda, and four days later the first Bundesliga game against VfL Bochum was about important points for staying in the league.

As fast as the head coach’s start was, the team developed just as quickly under him. She gradually set about completing the tasks set. VfB won in Nuremberg, fought their way from last place in the table into relegation in the eight remaining games under the direction of Sebastian Hoeneß and prevailed there against Hamburger SV.

63 points in 32 games under Sebastian Hoeneß

During the summer break, the head coach and his coaching colleagues set the right course, after all VfB is in third place in the table with 50 points in the current season after 24 match days. Never before has a VfB team had more points to its name at the same time. Across seasons, the team with the chest ring collected 63 points in 32 games in the Bundesliga under the 41-year-old. Numbers that are just as impressive as the way the team performs on the pitch.

Over the past eleven months, the head coach, together with the team on and off the pitch, has managed to trigger great emotions among the fans around VfB through their sporting successes. Sebastian Hoeneß should continue the development he has begun in the future: VfB and his head coach have agreed on the early extension of the contract, which was originally dated until 2025, until June 30, 2027. At the same time, VfB has also extended the contract with assistant coach David Krecidlo, who came to VfB together with Sebastian Hoeneß and had previously worked with him at various positions in the coaching team, until June 30, 2027.

“For me, VfB is a special club. Even as a little boy, I sat here in the stadium and cheered for VfB. I also wore the coat of arms on my chest for three years as a youth player around 25 years ago and became German champion with VfB U17. For me, VfB means emotion – something very special,” said Sebastian Hoeneß when he took office and now adds: “I am pleased to have extended my contract with VfB early. Together we managed to lead VfB on the right path. Our goal must be to follow this path sustainably in order to permanently establish VfB in the top half of the table again. It was fun right from the start to work with this team and the coaching team as well as the entire staff and to experience the fantastic support of our fans. Last but not least, the constructive discussions with Alexander Wehrle, Fabian Wohlgemuth and Christian Gentner persuaded me to extend my contract early. The exchange between us is characterized by trust and appreciation. My focus is now more than ever on the crucial phase of the current season.”

VfB CEO Alexander Wehrle: “Sebastian Hoeneß and VfB fit together perfectly. As a youth player, Sebastian wore the jersey with the red chest ring; his connection to the club and the people in the region is clearly noticeable. Sebastian committed to VfB at the end of last season, when the sporting prospects were anything but rosy. He believed in the potential of the team and the entire club and put things on the right track with great commitment. As a convinced team player, he exemplifies humility and loyalty, while at the same time his ambition and motivation to constantly develop our players and the team are extremely strong. In our opinion, the early contract extensions with Sebastian Hoeneß and his assistant coach David Krecidlo are the absolutely right and logical step. We are pleased to have finalized these important personnel details to the satisfaction of everyone involved and can now approach the last ten games of the season with additional energy. I’m really looking forward to my next white sausage breakfast with Sebastian.”

VfB sports director Fabian Wohlgemuth: “I can say it without further ado: the early extension of the contract with Sebastian Hoeneß is as important for our further sporting development as no other personnel in the club at the moment. It is Sebastian himself who takes a back seat and always puts the team spirit first. When he took office almost a year ago, the immediate sporting and economic future of our club was largely unclear. Undeterred by this, he gave VfB Stuttgart a new sporting perspective from day one with a clear sporting concept and an enormous sense of what the group and the individual needed. It was his determination that carried many inside and outside the club. David Krecidlo was also significantly involved, as an assistant coach and long-time, close confidant at Sebastian’s side. We are happy to have certainty today that we can continue on this path together with Sebastian Hoeneß and David Krecidlo in the long term. The conversations that led us to this goal were always trusting and open.”
