A spokesman for the Taliban confirms the hard line of the new government. Women – he explained – “it is not necessary” to be ministers. Interviewed by the broadcaster Tolo News, he said: “A woman cannot be a minister, her job is to have children”. When asked by the journalist what is the reason why it is not women who represent society, the Taliban spokesman replies by explaining that “the four women who are protesting are not representative of all Afghan women”. “Afghan women are the ones who give birth for the Afghan people. And they must be educated according to Islamic ethics.” Leading a ministry, he continues, would be like ” giving women a weight that they cannot bear ”.
