Chennai: The Tamil Nadu government has come to the rescue of the common man when he is caught up in the rising cost of building materials. Chief Minister MK Stalin has unveiled a new brand called ‘Valimai’ manufactured by the Tamil Nadu Cements Corporation. ‘Valimai’ will reach the masses at a lower price than other cements.

Valimai Premium is priced at Rs 350 per 50 kg sack and Rs 365 per Valimai Superior sack. At present, ‘Valimai’ is strong when the price of cement of private companies in the market is close to Rs.500.

It is reported that the Tamil Nadu government’s ‘Arasu’ cement currently manufactures and sells 30,000 tonnes per month. With the increase in cement prices by private companies, the government has started a new move to bring down the price of cement on its own to the people.

Valimai is the second cement brand launched by the Government of Tamil Nadu. During Jayalalithaa’s tenure, Arasu Cement was known as Amma Cement. It is still on the market. Tamil Nadu Cements Corporation has three plants at Ariyalur and Alangulam in Tenkashi district with a capacity to produce 17 lakh MT of cement.
