On Wednesday, a delegation of the Employees’ Association of the OTA of Ioannina held a demonstration at the First Instance Prosecutor’s Office for the bringing of a municipal employee of the Municipality of Dodoni to the Police Department of Tyria.


As stated in a press release, the employee was brought in after a named complaint by the head of the opposition about a project of the Municipality, without specifying whether it is a complaint about the illegal taking of material or the illegal transfer of material. In fact, while there was a complaint that he was transporting material from the river, the police did not even find the worker in the river, but outside the Tyria Police Station, and they still brought him in!
The OTA Employees’ Association notes that the legislation does not allow a municipal employee to refuse to perform some work, that is, even if the work was illegal, the employee does not bear any responsibility for carrying out orders. That is precisely why he emphasizes that the police could stop the works and simply examine whether they are illegal. Instead, he chose to detain the worker at the Tyria Police Station until noon as if he were a common criminal.
“State and repressive forces have never brought any contractor, nor even temporarily stopped all those who plunder the rivers of Ioannina unchecked to make a “net profit” from public works. On the contrary, they kept the municipal employee in the police station, who was transporting material belonging to the Municipality to carry out a project of the Municipality following an order he received from his service! Obviously, some municipal councilors of the Municipality of Dodoni are helping and supporting this project, and instead of demanding more public projects, they are blocking even the few that can be done by the Municipality”, concludes the OTA Employees’ Association.
