The director of Civil Protection, Luis Alonso Amaya, assured that during the previous weekend the institution’s lifeguard team carried out 165 water rescues, one of the most complicated was recorded on Los Blancos beach, in La Paz, where two tourists Americans were rescued alive.

Amaya said that the lifeguard teams had “a very busy weekend, since only in the area of ​​deep rescues we have had 165 between Saturday and Sunday; The most complicated case was that of two Americans who, thanks to the Civil Protection Lifeguard Unit, were rescued. Today we can say that these people have been given a second chance at life,” he emphasized.

The official added that the Civil Protection Lifeguard Unit works together with personnel from the Salvadoran Red Cross, Rescue Commands, Green Cross and the National Civil Police, whose teams have been deployed in 110 points on 28 beaches in the country.

The circumstances under which the bathers were on the verge of losing their lives were due to several factors, among which four stand out: irresponsibility in the consumption of alcoholic beverages, lack of skill when swimming in the sea, return currents to which hikers rarely pay due attention, even when lifeguards issue the respective alerts with flags.

He called on citizens to comply with the provisions of the lifeguards when they understand with a whistle that it is the signal for them to get out of the water and, of course, he warned that it is not advisable for them to bathe in the sea at night.
