Tottenham Hotspur have announced a new deal, one day after the end of the winter transfer window.
The London club issued an official statement, in which it announced its contract with player Lukas Bergvall, coming from Swedish club Djurgården.
He explained that the 18-year-old signed a contract, extending until the summer of 2029, with the Swede joining the team starting next July 1.
Spurs was able to close the deal at the expense of Barcelona, which was close to including the young midfielder, had the English club not outperformed him with a larger financial offer.
Joan Laporta, Barcelona’s president, had acknowledged Tottenham’s superiority over the Blaugrana, due to the latter’s inability to keep up with the London club financially.
Barca has been suffering from a major financial crisis in recent years, which has weakened its ability to conclude major deals.
