New York: A medical emergency has been declared in New York City after the polio virus was found in sewage.

Sewage samples were collected in Nassau County, Long Island, New York City, USA. Then, polio virus germs were found in it. State Governor Kathy Hochul declared a state of emergency.

In this case, doctors and nurses have been given permission to administer polio vaccine and guidelines have been given for the same.

Health Commissioner Mary Bassett said, “We can’t be complacent about polio. It can be dangerous. So if you or your children aren’t getting polio vaccine, get it now. This paralyzing virus can be devastating. The people of New York City should not be in any danger.” “Take the medicine. Even those who have had a full dose of polio vaccine are urged to take booster doses.”

Likewise, all health workers in Rockland County, Orange County, Sullivan County, Nassau County, and New York City have been advised to receive a polio booster dose.
