The information regarding this came out from the website of the US State Department. Apart from the embassy in Delhi, there are four US consulates in India. According to reports, the time required to apply for a visa and wait for an appointment at consulates in Mumbai, Kolkata, Hyderabad and Chennai is very long.
Those applying at the consulate in Mumbai have to wait 848 days to get an appointment and 833 days to get an appointment from the embassy in Delhi. Meanwhile, you have to wait 450 days for an appointment at the consulate in Islamabad. The waiting time for student visas in Delhi and Mumbai is 430 days. But it is one day in Islamabad and two days in Beijing.
582 days are required for visiting visa at the consulate in Hyderabad. Wait time for student visa is 430 days. There is a waiting time of 780 days for visiting visa and 29 days for student visa at the consulate in Chennai. There is a waiting time of 767 days for visiting visa and 444 days for student visa from the embassy in Kolkata.
Now the foreign minister in the US S. Jaishankar raised the issue with Secretary of State Anthony Blinken. Blinken’s answer was that the situation is similar in many parts of the world due to Covid.
