President Xi Jinping insisted that the religions in the country should be changed according to the socialist society followed by the ruling Communist Party of China and said that Muslims should live in the traditional orientation of China in the country.

Xi Jinping underlined the need for the Chinese government to develop a strong sense of community for the Chinese nation, improve the administrative capacity of religious affairs, and develop religions creatively.

China’s state-run Xinhua news agency reported that the president said more efforts should be made to ensure that the ordinary religious needs of religious believers are closely united around the party and the government.

Calling for educating and guiding people of all ethnicities to strengthen identification with the motherland, Xi Jinping stressed the importance of cultural identity. The Chinese government has accused the East Turkistan Islamic Movement (ETIM), which operates in the Xinjiang region, of carrying out several terrorist attacks.

China, which insists its policies have helped fight the threat of Islamic extremism, has denied accusations that the West is wrong to label the government’s actions in Xinjiang “genocide”.

After lengthy negotiations with Beijing, UN Human Rights Council President Michelle Bachelet recently visited Xinjiang to conduct an inspection. There, Michel raised various concerns regarding China’s counter-terrorism and counter-terrorism measures.

Xi Jinping, who is preparing for a third consecutive term as president of China, the world’s second-largest economy, is widely believed to change the decades-old precedent of presidential tenure followed by the Communist Party.
