Bulgaria and Azerbaijan can explore the huge potential of hydrogen production, a source in the Bulgarian Energy Ministry told Trend, Day.Az reports.

“Bulgaria and Azerbaijan are firmly committed to developing a strategic partnership, especially in the field of energy, which plays a central role in economic transformation. Opportunities for cooperation are varied and promising. Bulgaria and Azerbaijan can explore the enormous potential of hydrogen as a clean and sustainable energy carrier. We are convinced that joint efforts will “The research, development and application of hydrogen technologies can not only contribute to energy security, but also to global efforts to reduce carbon dioxide emissions,” the source said.

He added that investment in renewable energy sources is another key area of possible bilateral cooperation.

“By investing in the development of solar, wind and other renewable energy projects, both countries can diversify their energy mix, improve energy security and contribute to a more sustainable future. Infrastructure development is a key element underpinning the success of energy cooperation. Investing in a modern and efficient “Infrastructure such as cross-border power lines and energy storage can facilitate the smooth exchange of energy resources between Bulgaria and Azerbaijan. Strengthening energy connectivity also means strengthening regional stability and is the basis for additional economic growth,” the source said.

He noted that Bulgaria wants to express gratitude for the existing reliable relations between the two countries, which are already entering the stage of partnership, which can only contribute to future joint projects and endeavors.

“This serves as a solid basis for entering new mutually beneficial areas of cooperation,” the source added.

Note that the study, prepared by consulting firm Advisian with support from the EBRD, shows that with established downstream, ammonia and methanol markets and extensive natural gas distribution systems that can be converted to hydrogen, Azerbaijan has great potential to meet demand for low-grade hydrogen. carbon.

Hydrogen can help decarbonize these industries. With large amounts of renewable resources, as well as direct access to natural gas reserves in the Shah Deniz field, Azerbaijan is well positioned to develop both green and blue hydrogen. In addition, the existing natural gas supply infrastructure – the Southern Gas Corridor – will potentially allow hydrogen to be blended with natural gas for export.
