Sri Lankan Army fires to quell clashes at pump after running out of fuel. The clash erupted on Saturday night when a biker questioned whether he had run out of petrol at the pump.
The shooting took place at Visuvamad, 365 km from Colombo. Military spokeswoman Nilantha Premaratne said the attackers hurled stones at the army and army truck.
The government had handed over the security of the pumps to the army as the shortage of petrol and kerosene was acute and the long queues continued, often leading to walkouts.
