The 3rd Conference of the Parliamentary Network of the Non-Aligned Movement took place in Geneva, Switzerland.

As Day.Az reported on Tuesday, 53 delegations representing member parliaments and international organizations took part in the event chaired by the Speaker of the Milli Majlis (parliament) and the Parliamentary Network Sahiba Gafarova.

Opening the conference with an opening speech, Sahiba Gafarova welcomed the participants of the event and expressed confidence that the conference would make a great contribution to the further development of cooperation between the member countries.

Saying that the number of participants in the Parliamentary Network conferences has been growing steadily since their founding meeting in Madrid in November 2021, Sahiba Gafarova noted that the network continues to grow. According to her, today the Parliamentary Network represents more than half of the parliaments of the member states of the Non-Aligned Movement.

In her speech, Sahiba Gafarova mentioned that since its creation, the Parliamentary Network has been coordinating its activities with the decisions of executive authorities and reflecting them in its final documents.

The Speaker of the Milli Majlis emphasized that Azerbaijan’s role as chairman of COP29 creates an important opportunity to attract international partners to develop climate action for the benefit of the planet.

In her opinion, in this sense, inclusive dialogue, constructive cooperation and joint action are key factors for achieving progress in this direction.

She also added that in order to achieve common goals, the participation of all members of the international community in this process is important.

At the initiative of the Secretary General of the Inter-Parliamentary Union, Martin Chungong, the Milli Majlis of the Republic of Azerbaijan, together with the Inter-Parliamentary Union, plans to organize a parliamentary meeting within the framework of COP29. The event will give parliamentarians the opportunity to widely exchange views and determine what steps they can take to combat climate change. The meeting will thus contribute to multilateral climate action.

As a result of the conference, the Geneva Declaration was adopted.
