Probation for a period of 6 months is the punishment of a 32-year-old driver who caused the death of an elderly pedestrian in Perushtitsa through carelessness.

The incident occurred on January 7, 2022 at around 2:15 p.m. on Ivan Vazov Blvd. The driver went backwards to get out of a line of parked cars and join the traffic. He did not make sure that he could do the maneuver without creating danger for other road users, nor did he ensure that he could signal to him in the event of a problem. That’s how he hit an 81-year-old woman with his Mercedes.

After the accident, the driver did everything in his power to provide first aid to the victim. She was taken to hospital but succumbed to her injuries.

The driver’s punishment is expressed in mandatory registration at the current address and signing in front of a probation officer 2 times a week, as well as periodic meetings with him. He is disqualified from driving for 6 months, but from this term is deducted the time for which his license was revoked after the accident, which was one week longer. The 32-year-old resident of Peruštitsa must also pay BGN 1,487.50 in costs.

The verdict is subject to appeal within 15 days before the Court of Appeal in Plovdiv.
