Santiago: Social Convergence Party leader Gabriel Boric has been elected the new president of Chile. Borik, 35, is the youngest president to return to power in the country since his return to democracy. Borick won Sunday’s election with 55.87% of the vote. Jose Antonio Castin, the main rival and right-winger, received 44.13% of the vote. Boric will be sworn in on March 11 next year.
Borick’s election announcements included an improved public health system, a write-off of student debt, an increase in taxes for the super-rich, and a review of the private pension system.
